The plan

Bill’s Priorities for Port Colborne

Four commitments for the next four years.

Healthcare

Ensuring Port Colborne residents have access to reliable first-class services for years to come will be a top priority for Bill over the next four years. He will continue enacting Port Colborne’s Health and Wellness Action Plan, his strategy is to ensure our new health hub is open and operational by 2028.

The new Health Hub will include specialized services including enhanced primary care, diagnostic, lab, enhanced seniors and child care, along with after-hours care. The options for our new Hub are endless. This modern facility provides everything our medical community needs including new physicians and medical infrastructure. When completed this facility will be over 30,000 square feet of space and attract first-class medical professionals.

Water and Wastewater

Over the past eight years under Mayor Bill Steele, Port Colborne has seen massive investments in our water and wastewater systems, that have strengthened our infrastructure and increased efficiency.

Moving forward, Bill has a plan to look at service delivery differently. Bill supports a better approach that allows the City to manage our entire water and wastewater system which will in turn lower your rates. His plan is to create a municipally owned public service delivery system. This, along with continued investment and improvements, will result in a safe and reliable system for all our water users.

More Investment and Stable Taxes

Port Colborne has seen an increase in business investment, and Bill has plans to continue to attract more businesses and jobs. Bill will continue to build partnerships with our current commercial and industrial businesses and those that have decided to relocate to Port Colborne. As part of the Great Lakes Trade Corridor, he will continue to partner with the federal and provincial governments to make Port Colborne the best place for industries to invest and grow. This means more local jobs and opportunities for Port Colborne residents.

Private sector investment and increased tax revenue from businesses means that Port Colborne can keep residential taxes stable. With these investments, Bill’s goal is to keep residential tax growth below the rate of inflation.

Livable for Everyone

From youth to seniors and everyone in between, Bill Steele has a plan to make life more livable for all residents. He will focus on upgrading key community spaces like parks and trails, so residents have good public spaces to enjoy. For parents and children, Bill is partnering with the YMCA to open up 50 new childcare spaces and then create an additional 200 spaces at the Vale Health and Wellness Centre. He will continue to invest in our roads and sidewalks for an even safer community.

Bill will continue to make strategic investments in our tourism sector, working with the Seaway and the cruise ship industry to enhance Port Colborne as a key stop in the Great Lakes. Creating an environment to increase our tourism operators’ success and make Port Colborne a destination visitors want to see.
